In today’s manufacturing environment, the lack of resources and the high turnover rate in engineering and quality personnel causes tension in the Quality Departments. What is Interim PPAP Approval?

Upon Submission, a PPAP has 3 possible Warrant Disposition Status:

Rejected
Approved
Interim Approved

While the focus must be to have full PPAP Approval, there are some instances where an interim PPAP Approval can be considered:

Documentation issues. In cases where minor corrections to the PPAP documentation are needed and these corrections do not affect the form , fit or function of the parts, an Interim Approval can be granted for a short period of time allowing the supplier to ship parts while the documentation is corrected

Although the PPAP has been a common practice in the industry since 1993, the actual purpose and meaning of a PPAP is still often misunderstood. We will explain this based in the AIAG standard.

Many persons think that a PPAP Approval is a shipping authorization that allows the supplier to send parts to their customer in serial production quantities, this is false.
