What to know about Ford’s New PPAP CSR
October 23, 2024

Ford Motor Company has announced significant updates to their Customer Specific Requirements (CSR) for Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), effective September 30, 2024. These changes aim to streamline the PPAP process and align Ford’s requirements with industry best practices.

Ford’s Main Changes

One of the key modifications is the acceptance of the AIAG & VDA Handbook format for Design FMEA (Section 2.2.4) and Process FMEA (Section 2.2.6). This move will foster greater consistency and efficiency in risk assessment and mitigation activities. Additionally, Ford has introduced specific acceptance criteria for Heat Treated Components (Section 2.2.11.3), ensuring that the quality and performance of these critical components meet stringent standards.

To facilitate a more flexible approach to product development, Ford has also implemented Interim Approval Requirements (Section 5.2.2). This allows for the conditional release of parts for production while certain PPAP deliverables are still being finalized, accelerating the time-to-market process.

Looking ahead, Ford has mandated the use of the AIAG APQP Manual 4th Edition and Control Plan Manual 1st Edition by December 31, 2024. This adoption will ensure that Ford’s suppliers are equipped with the latest tools and methodologies for effective product development and quality management.

These updates to Ford’s CSR for PPAP demonstrate the company’s commitment to continuous improvement and collaboration with its supply chain. By aligning with industry standards and incorporating innovative practices, Ford is driving greater efficiency, quality, and competitiveness in its manufacturing operations.
